Mathews Chikaonda served as Malawi’s central bank governor in the 1990s

Malawi: The former governor of the Reserve Bank of Malawi died on October 30, in Los Angeles, at the age of 64.

Mathews Chikaonda joined the central bank as deputy governor in 1994, before being appointed to lead the institution a year later. He served one five-year term before moving to government, where he enacted his ‘10-point plan’ as finance minister.
