After unifying in August 2018, the Marriott Rewards, The
Ritz-Carlton and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) loyalty programs finally have a
new name: Marriott Bonvoy. In addition to the updated name, the following program
changes have gone into effect on Feb. 13, 2019:

  • Marriott Rewards Moments and SPG Moments are now
    known as “Marriott Bonvoy Moments.”
  • The Marriott Bonvoy app has replaced the
    Marriott app. If you have already downloaded the Marriott app, it will automatically
    update to the new Marriott Bonvoy app, or you can download the new app here. The SPG and The Ritz-Carlton
    Rewards apps are no longer active as of Feb. 13.
  • Two new Elite status tier names have been
    introduced:

Along with the program rebrand, several credit cards have
been overhauled – with more changes on the horizon. Read on to see what you
should expect.

Starwood Preferred
Guest® American Express Luxury Card changes:

  • Effective Feb. 13, the card name has changed to
    “Marriott Bonvoy™ from American Express® Card.”
  • The Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card from
    American Express no longer accepts applications as of that date.
  • Existing cardholders – who applied for the card
    prior to Jan. 23 – can register to earn up to 100,000 bonus points.

Starwood Preferred
Guest® American Express Luxury Card changes:

  • Effective Feb. 13, the card name has changed to the
    “Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant™ American Express® Card.”
  • Cardholders who sign up between Feb. 13 and
    April 24 will earn 100,000 bonus points when they spend $5,000 in the first
    three months of card membership.
  • The Marriott Bonvoy Brilliant card features a
    new metal design.
  • Starting March 28, cardholders will receive up
    to a $100 property credit for qualifying charges at The Ritz-Carlton or St. Regis
    when you book direct using a special rate for a two-night minimum stay.

Marriott Rewards® Premier
Plus Business card changes:

  • As of Feb. 13, Chase no longer accepts new
    applications for the Marriott Rewards Premier Plus Business Credit Card;
    however, existing cardholders will continue to receive their benefits and be
    serviced by Chase.
  • The card name has been updated to the “Marriott
    Bonvoy™ Premier Plus Business Credit Card.”
  • Card members can receive an additional free
    night award after $60,000 spend each calendar year, which will be valid at any
    property with a redemption value of up to 35,000 points

The Starwood
Preferred Guest® Business Credit Card from American Express changes:

  • If you sign up for the card between Feb. 13 and
    April 24, you can earn a 100,000-point bonus after spending $5,000 in the first
    three months.
  • The card name will be updated to “Marriott
    Bonvoy Business™ American Express® Card” in March.
  • Starting March 28, the annual fee will increase
    from $95 to $125. If you apply for the card prior to that date, the annual fee
    will be $0 the first year, $95 the second year and $125 thereafter.
  • Starting March 28 – along with the free night
    award each year after your account anniversary – cardholders who spend $60,000
    or more in a calendar year will receive a second free night award each year on
    their account anniversary. 

The Ritz-Carlton
Rewards® Credit Card changes:

  • The card name is changing to “The Ritz-Carlton™
    Credit Card from JPMorgan”
  • Starting in April, the $100 luxury property
    credit will include The Ritz-Carlton and the St. Regis when you book direct
    using your card.
  • Note, the Ritz-Carlton card stopped accepting
    new applications in July 2018.

More changes to come 

Chase and Marriott have also announced the launch of an
enhanced Marriott Rewards® Premier Plus Credit Card. Scheduled to launch Feb.
28, 2019, the upgraded Marriott Bonvoy Boundless™ Credit Card will feature a
limited-time bonus offer: New cardholders will earn 100,000 bonus points when
they spend $5,000 in the first three months of card membership. Chase has not
yet announced when the limited-time bonus offer is scheduled to end.

Marriott Rewards
Premier Plus card changes 

Along with an updated card name and increased sign-up bonus,
the Marriott Bonvoy Boundless card will feature new card art. Plus, the card
will be contactless with EMV Chip technology, allowing you to tap and pay
quickly and securely at millions of locations.

2019.
