New Austrian governor says ECB should tighten policy

Robert Holzmann, a distinguished economist and supporter of Austria’s hard-right Freedom Party, became governor of the country’s central bank on September 1.

One of Holzmann’s first acts on taking office was to call for the European Central Bank to tighten its monetary policy.

Austria is a member of the eurozone and the new governor will sit on the ECB’s governing council, which has its next monetary policy meeting on September 12.
