Lebanon’s prime minister requested $10 billion in International Monetary Fund emergency aid today (May 1), days after attacking the central bank governor’s handling of the crisis.
Central bank governor Riad Salameh accused un-named politicians of “slander”, as the dispute between him and prime minister Hassan Diab worsened. Salameh condemned attacks on the central bank in very strongly worded terms, in a clear reference to recent remarks by Diab.
