Bethlehem, West Bank, Palestine
The Palestine Monetary Authority (PMA) is trying to mediate a dispute prompted by the closure of bank accounts belonging to Palestinian prisoners, as the situation risks descending into violence.
Israel passed legislation relating to the Israel Defense Forces on May 9, stating that anyone funding individuals accused of terrorist offences could face 10 years in prison. The law led many Palestine-based banks to close accounts held by Palestinian prisoners charged with terrorism.
